Sri Muthumariamman Temple is the name given by Hindus to the well-known Matale Hindu shrine. The major towers, known as Gopurams, include hundreds of exquisite sculptures in a vibrant mosaic of colors. These Gopuram constructions can be seen in numerous Hindu temples throughout the entire island, as well as in Southern India. In addition, they think Muthumariamman is the goddess bringing rain. “Muthu” refers to pearls, “Mari” to rain, and “Amman” to the goddess. Furthermore, Hindus worship this deity for prosperity and protector of diseases.
The Ranweli Spice Garden, located about an hour’s drive north of Kandy in Kawudupelella, Matale, celebrates the rich history of Sri Lankan spices. These spices and herbs not only add flavor to the cuisine but also contain healthy compounds that combat inflammation and protect the body’s cells. While herbs come from a plant’s leaves, spices are typically derived from its seeds, berries, bark, or root. Many of these essential plants for traditional Sri Lankan dishes can be explored at the Ranweli Spice Garden. (The place is not our property)
